Brigitte moved to Bend from the San Francisco Bay Area in 2005 when she and her husband chose this area for retirement. She found Bend to be perfect to enjoy a slower pace of life with beautiful surroundings and many opportunities for outdoor activities. It was easy to make lots of friends with people who have retired here as well. Brigitte likes socializing and hiking with her friends, skiing, playing tennis and pickle ball, and likes volunteering at Visit Bend.
Chip was born in Buffalo, NY, and moved around the East Coast growing up as the son of Marines. During his teenage years, he lived near Quantico, VA, then he joined the Air Force and got stationed in Fairbanks, AK, during the Vietnam War. He ended up living 33 years in Alaska and moved to Bend in 2007. Chip telecommuted from home as a software engineer and retired a few years ago. He likes getting out and meeting people so he really appreciates his volunteer opportunity at Visit Bend. Chip enjoys hiking, golfing, yoga and snowshoeing, all activities he can do around Central Oregon.
Connie moved from Portland to Bend in 2005, excited to get on the “dry side.” Her working years were spent in the computer industry, with a launch into the hospitality world at Bend’s Oxford Hotel. Her interests include metalsmithing, cycling, hiking, and chatting it up with friendly folks - all a perfect combination for living in Central Oregon.
David moved to Bend in 2012 from Colorado Springs after retiring as a 27-year employee at the U.S. Air Force Academy. He and his wife visited Central Oregon every summer to spend time with his son who lives and works here and his wife’s parents who live in Sisters. His hobbies include golf and photography. On his things-to-do-list is to learn how to play pickleball. He also enjoys taking advantage of all that Bend and Central Oregon has to offer from museums, excellent restaurants and food carts, breweries, and hiking trails. At Visit Bend, he enjoys meeting visitors and providing information about what to do and where to go.
Deborah started visiting Central Oregon with her family nearly 25 years ago and fell in love with the area and the friendly people who call Bend home. In 2004, she and her husband were able retire and relocate here. She enjoys the variety of cultural, dining and outdoor adventures, the beautiful scenery throughout the seasons and all those sunny days. Since moving to Bend, Deborah discovered the thrill of mountain biking. She also makes time for skiing, golf, yoga, paddling and hiking with friends. With so many options, she tries to get in two fun activities each day. At Visit Bend, she enjoys introducing others to this incredible area and sharing the amazing ‘Bend Life’!
A 20-year resident, Demy was drawn to Bend from the San Francisco Bay Area by the combination of scenic beauty, small town warmth and city sophistication. When not volunteering at Visit Bend, she can be found skiing or trekking in the mountains, golfing on one of the local courses, taking a class at Central Oregon Community College or enjoying a concert or theatrical production. Demy enjoys the opportunity to meet new people and share her love of Bend.
Geoff moved to Bend in the spring of 2003 from Laguna Beach, realizing there has to be a better place to raise his growing family. After looking at several destinations to call home, Bend won out for several reasons, long ski season being one of the main ones. Small enough to be quaint, yet large enough to have several fun options for things to do and places to go, not a day does by regretting his decision to move to Bend. A licensed real estate broker with Cascade Sotheby’s since 2005, Geoff now gets to assist those looking to relocate themselves. Skiing, tennis, soccer, camping and enjoying all that Central Oregon has to offer is a full time job outside his family and work.
Prior to arriving in Bend, Jane was a Director for Nike Inc. in Portland for over 16 years. Every vacation possible she loved to relax, ski, hike and bike in Central Oregon and finally was able to relocate here in 2006. Jane’s plan was, I will try it out and can always move back, but it took 1 week before she never cared to go back home over the mountain. Jane wanted to share her enthusiasm and knowledge of the area by showing visitors how easy the transition to relocate is. Instrumental in this is by giving back, helping and assisting visitors by volunteering at Visit Bend.
Josefa managed a travel agency in Anchorage, Alaska, for 23 years before moving to Bend in May of 2007. An avid hiker and runner, Josefa found Bend to be a perfect fit for her active lifestyle. Her desire to learn more about Bend, her background in travel, and her enjoyment at meeting new people led her to volunteer for Visit Bend.
Joyce and husband, Bob, moved full-time to Bend almost 6 years ago from Marin County, California. They had been visiting Joyce’s daughter and family in Bend for several years and fell in love with Central Oregon. Joyce has been very active in the Newcomer’s Club of Bend and volunteering at The Tower Theatre. She loves playing pickleball, kayaking, hiking, biking, dancing and sharing all that this area has to offer with visitors to Visit Bend.
Kathy moved to Bend from Northern California in the summer of 2001 after visiting her daughter who lives here. She was looking for a friendly mountain community to relocate to and decided Bend was the place. She was in the real estate/loan business for many years before retiring a few years ago. She enjoys exploring all that the area has to offer and is an active volunteer for several organizations. She especially enjoys volunteering at Visit Bend because of all of the interesting people she meets and helps to make their visit to the area the best that it can be.
Kathy and her husband moved to Bend four years ago from San Jose, CA to retire in paradise. They love Bend! Kathy still teaches part time at the community college but is “mostly” retired. She loves to walk and finds Bend a great town for that. She also hikes, kayaks, and volunteers for many organizations in town as well as many of Bend’s sporting events, like the Pole, Peddle, Paddle (PPP). She loves to play all sorts of games and loves to entertain.
Steve was born and raised on the Oregon coast in Astoria. While in college in Portland, he learned of the sunny skies, skiing, fishing, and golf opportunities in Bend. For the next 40 years, as a facility and school administrator in Seattle, Washington DC, Upstate NY, and Arlington VA, Bend and its mountains, lakes, rivers, and golf courses served as a favorite winter and summer vacation retreat from the bigger cities. After years of "shopping" for the ideal place to retire, Steve and his wife, Shari, moved to Central Oregon; first to Bend and then to Redmond’s Vista Meadows neighborhood. Steve loves the opportunity to meet folks in the Visitor Center and share with them his passion for fly fishing, golf, and the magnificent scenery in Bend and the vicinity.
Tom couldn’t wait to retire from his job in Texas so he could move to Bend! He loves the beauty of the area as well as the beer. Since moving, Tom has taken up brewing beer (dark varieties), kayaking, hiking, ballroom dance, and a variety of other fun activities. You can often find him volunteering at events and for arts organizations when he’s not at Visit Bend.
Vicki is a retired teacher who has lived in Bend since 1974! With her son off to college and now an empty nester, she thought it would be fun to volunteer with Visit Bend. Vicki wanted to work with a dynamic group of people and found them at the Visit Bend Visitor Center. She and her husband have enjoyed living the dream in Central Oregon and would love to share their love of the area with its many visitors.
