We'd like to introduce you to the Visit Bend staff--or the Bend Experts as we refer to them. Take a minute and get to know them. You may even find out some interesting tidbits on the area and advice for first time visitors.
Valerie went back and forth between Central Oregon and Portland for five years before she and her husband John moved to their vacation cabin in Sunriver full time. She has lived in the Bend area since 2005.
In her time away from work, Valerie enjoys skiing, après skiing, movies, and hanging out with her dog Whittney on Sunriver's many trails.
I moved to Bend to ski, so my favorite Bend adventure is a great powder day on Mt. Bachelor. If the backside runs are open, it is even better! In the spring it's great to ski and then enjoy some sun on the lodge patio or with the locals in the parking lot before heading home.
I don't know if I could pick just one, but I love Kebaba and Alpenglow. Alpenglow has the freshest, best breakfast around. Kebaba is a nice, casual place to hang out and enjoy wonderful Middle Eastern food. I also can't go more than a few days without a smoothie from Mother's Juice Cafe - delicious!
Visit Bend's website has great resources and an up-to-date events calendar. The Source Weekly is also a really good way to find out what is going on and is available for free in many locations around town.
The downtown area and Drake Park are must-sees. I would also recommend that visitors check out the High Desert Museum a few miles south of town. The wildlife and exhibits are specific to Central Oregon and it is a great way to learn about the local area and its history.
In the summer time, Lava Lands is worth a visit. From the top of the butte you can see all of the buttes and mountains in Central Oregon and beyond!
