There is always something fun happening in Bend, Oregon. Central Oregon is home to a variety of year-round events from sporting and recreational festivities like the Cascade Cycling Classic and the Pole Pedal Paddle to an array of festivals like Balloons Over Bend, Bend's Bend WinterFest and Summer Festival, the Halloween Cyclocross Crusade & Festival, and free summer concerts at the Les Schwab Amphitheater.

The Strip Tease and the Creation of New Knowledge Through Encountering Art: An Artist Lecture with local artist and Art Institute of Boston MFA student Aaron Lish.

This presentation will discuss whether relational art can result in the creation of new knowledge, as has been suggested in the visual art literature.  It will then explore the use of contradiction and profanation in participatory and relational artforms as ways to address sociopolitical issues and create openings for new ways of thinking, or possibly even new knowledge production.  Aaron will briefly share how this research has influenced his own work, specifically his ongoing series of projects titled This Is (Ex)change.  There will be a brief Q and A session after the presentation followed by an open discussion of the topics presented.  Everyone is encouraged to participate in the open forum discussion.
All levels of artists and art viewers are encouraged to attend, from those with no art history or art skills background to professional artists and educators.  All of the above art forms will be explained in the presentation, so you do not have to have any prior knowledge in contemporary art whatsoever.  Bring your curiosity and your questions!
