Join the Deschutes Land Trust and Carol Wall for a walk back in time to explore the Santiam Wagon Road at Whychus Canyon Preserve. Imagine you are a pioneer in Oregon in the late 1800s, escaping the crowded Willamette Valley to seek land and fortune in the vast open spaces of Central Oregon. Walk the route followed by wagon trains as they traveled east and west on the Willamette Valley and Cascade Mountain Military Road (better known on its western end as the Santiam Wagon Road). We’ll also visit the site of an early homestead at the Preserve. Registration is required and opens 30 days prior to the event; please register online at www.deschuteslandtrust.org/events.
Rating: Moderate, ~2-3 mile walk.
