Allingham Campground is one of a string of campgrounds located one right after another along the well-known Metolius River. While many people visit the Metolius for the natural beauty and hiking, it’s perhaps best known for fly fishing. Allingham Campground can accommodate RV, trailer or tent-campers. However, water and electric hookups are not available. All sites are equipped with a picnic table and campfire ring with grill and the campground has vault toilets and drinking water available. Sites are $16 per night with one vehicle, with an additional fee of $8 for additional vehicles. The campground is open from mid-May through mid-September, and it gets heavy usage, so making reservations ahead of time is recommended. For day hikers and backpackers, the area offers a wide variety of scenic terrain, ranging from riverside trails to routes in subalpine forests. Visit the Metolius Fish Hatchery or Wizard Falls Fish Hatchery display ponds to observe and feed different types of salmon and other fish, and don’t miss the paved path leading to the Head of the Metolius, where the Metolius River flows from a large natural spring from the base of a hillside.
