With over 1.8 million acres on the high desert east side of the Cascade Range, Deschutes National Forest crosses four counties in Central Oregon and is celebrating more than a century of forest management. To take advantage of all the activities available year-round, you’ll need a Northwest Forest Pass. They can be purchased online or at various recreation gear stores, like REI. Thirty-nine mountain biking trails, 7 campgrounds, cabin rentals at Fall River Guard Station, 12 areas for river and stream fishing, 36 areas for day hiking, 3 area for horse riding, 6 areas for viewing the scenery, 1 OHV camping area and 2 OHV trails, 3 interpretative areas, 4 picnicking day use areas, 1 area for scenic driving, 8 motorized and 16 non motorized boating areas, 1 swimming area, 1 sledding/tubing area, 8 areas for XC skiing and snowshoeing, and 3 areas for snowmobiling are all detailed on their website.
