Meissner Nordic is a volunteer-run organization that offers cross country skiing “for the community, by the community”. The club was started in 1996 by a group of local elite skiers who wanted to pattern it after cross country ski clubs in Europe where each town has its own Nordic ski group. The idea took off and today Meissner Nordic is responsible for providing 40 KM of exceptional trails, stunning views, and a variety of terrain for both skating and classic skiers at Virginia Meissner Sno-Park, located on Century Drive just 20 minutes from Bend. The group hosts a number of coaching clinics and learn to ski days each year as well as high school ski races for students across the state and beyond. Meissner Nordic also puts on several ski tour events, including the Luminaries Tour and Tour de Meissner. In addition to hosting specific events, the club proudly helps to maintain and improve Virginia Meissner Sno-Park, and is recently responsible for expanding its trail system, building a new shelter, increasing trail grooming to five times per week, and providing up to date grooming reports so ski enthusiasts are in the know before they set out on their adventure, all to grow a lifelong love for the sport of cross country skiing.
