[body] => To say that twins Lori and Lisa Lubbesmeyer are quilters would not be accurate. Rather, they create paintings with fabric to produce stunning, vivid pieces in an art form that is entirely fresh and unique. One twin is a former printmaker and the other is a former oil painter, and the two fuse their artistic backgrounds and perspectives in a collaborative process that builds over each other’s work layer over layer, without conversation or referring to sketches. Using a method of layering and overstitching as they exchange the pieces, allows the imagery to emerge spontaneously and the end result is often a surprise even to its creators. The sisters also create acrylic paintings using the same collaborative process of passing the piece between them until it is complete. Lisa and Lori find inspiration in nature, Japanese block print, music of all genres, ethnic designs and patterns, the juxtaposition of old and new, architectural fragments, even road trips taken together or separately. The Lubbesmeyer Studio & Gallery is located in a 2nd story loft in the Old Mill District and is open to the public Wednesday – Saturday 11:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.

Summer Lovin' at the Old Mill District
Summer lovin’, had me some fun. Well, then you must have been on a date on a long, glorious summer evening in Bend, Oregon! For the most fun with your favorite person, we like to start with a wine tasting at Va Piano Vineyards in the Old Mill District where they have a patio tucked away in back that sits right along the Deschutes. While you’re in the neighborhood, create your own ‘Art Walk’ any night of the week with the large number of galleries in the area. Might as well hang out on the river again with a romantic dinner on the patio at Greg’s Grill as the sun begins to set over the mountains, before you hold hands on your stroll to a movie. Wrap up your low-key, high-impact evening with a nightcap or dessert at Level 2, perched above it all with your very favorite person.
