The Workhouse, located by the Sparrow Bakery in northeast Bend, provides a platform for local artists to get back to work. Operating as a place of exchange between artists and their community, they provide a retail gallery, on-site studios, events and educational programming for Bend and Central Oregon. Seeing themselves as a micro-model for a global movement toward sustainability, The Workhouse promotes the values of grassroots craft culture by engaging in a constructive, viable, and creative economy. With a focus on high-quality, locally-made, sustainable art that offers diverse options for conscientious buyers, they aim to demystify the art-making process through interaction with their studio artists and workshops. Open Monday from 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. and Tuesday – Sunday from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., see their online calendar to view upcoming class details from Figure Drawing to Blank Pages Writing Salons.
