Your Guide to a Safe Trek Around Bend's Craft Brew Scene
Getting Around The Bend Ale Trail
Bend Ale Trail
Have a safe trek around Bend's craft beer bonanzaWhat's the best way to trek the Bend Ale Trail?
The Bend Ale Trail is brimming with awesomeness, but you know what’s not awesome? Drinking and driving. Nothing puts a damper on a Bend vacation like dying, so let’s look at ways to trek the trail responsibly.
Lots of stops around Downtown Bend and the Old Mill District are walkable, so bust out your Bend Ale Trail map and plot a course between top picks. Bonus: Walking’s good for the environment and your health.
Not up for hoofing it? You’ll find oodles of options for organized Beer tours. The Bend Brew Bus will pick you up at your Bend home or hotel and take you on a beerventure to four breweries. Get behind-the-scenes tours and tastings at each stop, plus appetizers at one brewery.
The Bend Tour Company also boasts a host of tour options, including some that combine sightseeing and brewery stops. Choose your mode of transportation, from walking tours to open-air electric cars driven by a knowledgeable (and sober!) guide.
Jonesin’ for a taste of Bend’s cycling scene? Let it Ride Electric Bikes offers a tasting tour designed to introduce you to Bend’s breweries, pubs, and even cideries. If you don’t feel like pedaling, just kick the electric power into gear.
For groups like bachelor or bachelorette parties, the Cycle Pub of Bend lets you travel the trail on a bicycle built for 14. It’s a moving bar that chugs along with pedal power and a professional guide to steer and give it some gas on those hills. For smaller groups, try the Cycle Round, which holds 4-6 riders, plus guide.
If cycling isn’t your jam, let Bend’s Party Bus offer you first-class transportation complete with flat screen TV, LED laser light show, stereo sound system, and more. For a unique big-group option, try a pub crawl in a 1800s-style trolley car with Bend Trolley.
Bend also offers plenty of taxi services, plus Uber and Lyft to make it simple to summon your sober ride at a moment’s notice.
By the way, did you know you’re not required to drink a drop to earn prizes on the Bend Ale Trail? Breweries will gladly stamp your passport whether you’re sipping soda or IPA.
If you’re down with being your crew’s DD, read on for the scoop on our Designated Driver Program.
Earn prizes for being a Bend Ale Trail Designated Driver
To say thanks for your heroic act of schlepping folks safely around the Bend Ale Trail, we’ve got a special prize for official designated drivers. Here’s how you can earn your HydroFlask True Pint:
- Pick your DD. The designated driver is someone who is not drinking ANY alcohol for that entire day and is responsible for transporting his/her group safely along the Bend Ale Trail.
- Use a regular Bend Ale Trail passport to collect official “Designated Driver” stamps. You will need to declare yourself as the DD to the brewery staff to get this stamp.
Collect a minimum of 10 DD stamps from the Bend Ale Trail breweries and redeem your passport at the Bend Visitor Center. Your passport must have only DD stamps on it in order to claim your prize.
