A flurry of songs, skirts, and sword-fights, more than thirty OPA homeschoolers take to the stage at Mountain View High School for “La Reconquista,” our first original musical theatre production since Free Congo in 2019. “Fun” for kids and adults alike but with a heavier tone of drama than a Disney production, La Reconquista sets to life the historical siege, infiltration, and fall of Granada, Spain. Featuring live music, flamenco dance, ambitious set, costuming, and so much more, La Reconquista is a moving collage of color, spirit, history, and heart and our next big OPA spectacle.
The year is 1491.
The Muslim Caliphate has ruled the Iberian Peninsula
for almost eight hundred years.
But no more.
King Ferdinand II of Aragon marries Queen Isabella of Castile
and unites the two most powerful Christian kingdoms of Spain.
A unified Crusader army conquers the old Moorish strongholds:
Only Granada remains.
Beneath the mighty fortress, Alhambra, the Christians lay siege
and the majestic city that once ruled Spain is thrown into chaos.
By chance, a young servant girl finds herself trapped in the middle
and forced to choose between her nation, her friends, and her faith.
Where seizing a city may seem impossible,
the greatest challenge of all is to save a soul.
