Bachelor Butte Dog Derby
Watch as the sled dogs race to the finish
The Bachelor Butte Dog Derby is a trophy dog sled race held on the first weekend of March at the Wanoga Sno-Park outside of Bend, OR. The event consists of 25 miles per day with seven – thirteen dogs. The event has something for everyone, from beginners to experienced long distance mushers. Sled dog classes include one and a half mile, five mile/five dog, nine mile/nine dog, and fifteen mile/seven dog races. Skijoring races will also be conducted on separate tracks, with one and a half mile, five mile, and nine mile classes. The Bachelor Butte Dog Derby is an opportunity to experience the splendor of the Cascades and contest one’s dog team on world class terrain. The courses will be challenging and the classes offered somewhat nostalgic. Dog sled racing involves the timed competition of teams of sled dogs that pull a sled with the dog driver or musher standing on the runners. The team completing the marked course in the least time is judged the winner.
