The Deschutes Historical Museum celebrates its anniversary on July 4th with free admission and ice cream, where visitors are invited to tour the museum, partake in sack races, marble pick-up games and other outside activities. The 4th of July Free Day is an opportunity to thank the community for its support since their opening on July 4, 1980. The Deschutes Historical Museum is located in the historic Reid School in Bend, Oregon and focuses on preserving, promoting and celebrating its local history. The museum’s exhibits focus on the area’s prehistory, Native American tribes, explorers, pioneers, the logging industry, transportation, and the United States Forest Service. Historic items and antiques are displayed to show home and school life in different periods. The history library is open to the public and a small bookstore features works on Central Oregon history. Encompassing Bend, Redmond, La Pine, Tumalo, Sisters and Terrebonne, discover why this has always been a great place to live and play.
