Move over beer, there’s a new bubbly beverage in town taking over the Bend brewery and bar scene. Hard ciders are fermented from natural juice (not concentrates), naturally gluten-free, and are made with regional and local ingredients like berries, apples, apricots, and even bacon. Think of it as a cross between making wine and brewing beer.
Several craft cideries have sprung up around Bend and across the state of Oregon, and you’ll find many among the tap handles of local growler fill stations. Visit the tasting rooms to gather passport stamps along the Drinkable Diversions route!
The first cidery to hit in Bend in Oregon was Atlas Cider Co. that makes 100% authentic fresh cold-pressed fruit ciders using only Northwest fruit sources. Featured flavors include apple, cherry, blackberry and apricot. They don’t use any sorbate preservatives or any un-natural flavorings – just pure fruit.
Red Tank Cider Company is another Bend cidery that also makes all natural Northwest cider made with only apples, yeast, and natural sulfites. They have a tasting room where you can sample and buy some of their latest concoctions, including a hop cider, chili cider, and that bacon cider we mentioned earlier.
