Tucked next to The Pine Tavern in downtown Bend is a local roaster you won’t soon forget. Don’t let the name fool you; this is a place for good times to be sure, but the Looney Bean team is dead serious about serving up the best brew possible. All their beans are roasted to perfection on site so there’s really no way you could get a fresher cup. Bottomless drip is always piping hot or you can choose from one of the many hot or cold coffee drinks, including the fun-to-order Dirty Hippie. Fresh fruit smoothies are also on the menu, along with a case filled with tempting, locally made pastries, breakfast sandwiches, cookies, and scones. Since Looney Bean is housed in a converted cottage, there are plenty of rooms where you can get cozy without feeling crowded. A meeting room has tables for those who need to get a little work done, or you can enjoy your cup by the beautiful old stone fireplace. Oh, did we mention this sweet little cottage is located right on gorgeous Mirror Pond? When the weather gets even the slightest bit warm, patrons spill outdoors onto the lawn and settle in at picnic tables or right on the grass (yes, dogs are welcome out here, too). Soak up the sun, play a little cornhole, and if you’re really lucky you’ll score one of the coveted Adirondack chairs that’s so close to the river you can practically hear the ripples.
