M & J Tavern is one of Bend’s best kept secrets and also one of its greatest contradictions. It’s a self-professed dive bar (check their Facebook description) but it has highbrow tequila flights on the menu. You can sip classy mimosas on the weekends, but you can also do your laundry at the attached Sip-n-Suds. M & J Tavern may defy definition, but it is definitely a hit with locals and visitors alike. Going back to that tequila flight, they’ve got over 240 different kinds to choose from, and for those who want to split hairs, that’s excluding the mescal. M & J has been located on Greenwood Avenue for over 70 years and has something happening just about every day of the week. Wednesdays are open mic nights and those who make the cut get to come back on Tuesday and Saturday evenings to share their talents. On Thursdays, happy hour rolls right into Ladies Night and those in the know make sure to drop Shanna’s name for special discounts. Friday is free peanut day and on Sundays you can play pool for free from open to close. M & J Tavern is Oregon Ducks territory so if a game is on, you’ll find it on the screen here and you can cheer them on while you enjoy game day hot dogs for just a buck. In addition to hot dogs and bar snacks, M & J Tavern serves lunch and dinner and is open daily from 11:00 a.m.-1:30 a.m.
