Nam Tok Kitchen is a restaurant off of Mt. Washington Dr. on Bend’s west side, serving northern Thai and Lao cuisine. Owned by a local family, they are open Tuesday through Saturday for lunch and dinner with a Happy Hour running from 4:00-5:00 p.m. Tuesday-Friday. Nam Tok means “waterfall” in Thai and Lao and is a tribute to the restaurant’s location in Deschutes county because “des chutes” also means “falls”. Their signature dish Laap Nam Tok is grilled skirt steak with fish sauce, chili-lime dressing, herbs, shallot, tomato, cucumber and ground sticky rice. As a rule, this particular style of Thai food tends to have more fish sauce and be more savory than the sweeter dishes from southern Thailand. Thai food tends to be very Americanized and it is their goal to share the food that is more traditionally served. They also serve eight flavors of Bubble Tea, popular with students at nearby Summit High School.
