Located on Bend’s east side in the Whistlestop Business Center, between the Orchid Thai Restaurant and Fearless Bakery and Café, Saint Jacob of Alaska Orthodox Christian Church was founded in 2009. Since then a handful of Orthodox Christians have maintained its small chapel and formed a parish, with visiting priests coming to lead Divine Services from time to time to bring the ancient Christian faith—what believers called “The Way”—establishing the only Orthodox Christian Church in Central Oregon. St. Jacob is primarily made up of people from many backgrounds who have converted to this belief and they welcome those new to Holy Orthodoxy, as well as Orthodox Christians from every culture – from Africa, through the Middle East, Europe, and Asia to join them for the Divine Services, fellowship and adult education regarding Ancient Christianity.
