Bend’s Trader Joe’s is located in north Bend off Highway 97 in the Cascade Village Shopping Center. Offering a range of supermarket staples at low prices from meats and cheeses to fresh produce, wine and beer, they have organic, gluten-free, kosher, and vegan options. What started in 1958 as a small chain of convenience stores called Pronto Markets changed in 1967 when the founder called it Trader Joe’s and also changed the way they do business. Not only by making the stores bigger, but also by packaging innovative, hard-to-find, great-tasting foods under the “Trader Joe’s” name, cutting their costs to save the customer money. Trader Joe’s buys directly from suppliers whenever possible, bargaining hard to get the best price. Most grocers charge their suppliers fees for putting an item on the shelf, resulting in higher costs—they don’t. Trader Joe’s promises great quality fare for exceptional, everyday prices on their private label products. Tasting everything before they put their name on it and offering only what they feel is extraordinary if you don’t like it bring it back for a refund or exchange.
