Starting when she was young, Cayla was brought into the world of back packing and has always participated in sports. By her junior year in high school she became a climber while instructing young kids for summer camps outside of North Bend WA. From there she continued to instruct climbing in college at EWU and later began leading trips for college students. This job started her interest in rafting which took her to the New and Gauley Rivers for two summers as a river guide. Eventually she was able to finally make the move to Bend to enjoy a combination of her favorite outdoor recreational activities.
What’s Your Favorite Bend Adventure?
My favorite Bend Adventures mainly have to do with the Deschutes. The Deschutes River Trail just outside of the old mill district for hiking, and upriver from Aspen put in on a paddle board. Both spots remind me how close so much natural beauty and recreation can be found by living in Bend. If it comes down to it, you don’t have to go far to get out.
What’s Your Favorite Dining Spot?
Bend has so much amazing options… It truly is hard to pick one. For a quick breakfast and coffee then La Magie takes the cake, whereas Lemon tree would have to be my favorite place for brunch. When it comes to later in the day then Taste of Thai might be favorite place to go for lunch. Pro tip: if you do make your way to Taste of Thai then definitely ask for the spring rolls!
Best Piece Of Advice For First Time Visitors To Bend?
My best piece of advice for first time visitors would be to not let yourselves get overwhelmed. Start with the recommendations, float the river in the summertime and go skiing up at Bachelor in the winter. See the city from the top of pilot butte, and learn about Central Oregon at the High Desert Museum.
Don’t worry about doing everything. Make sure to relax at Drake Park. As your vacation goes on, you will learn about more things you want to do. But don’t worry, you can always come back to explore more!
