Deep Creek Campground
Overlooking the Crooked River
Deep Creek Campground is located in the Ochoco National Forest, surrounded by large ponderosa pine trees and overlooking the Crooked River. Deep Creek is approximately 50 miles from Prineville and Paulina, but roads are paved most of the way, making it an easy drive to the serene setting. Fishing in the river can be good depending on when you visit, and the season is open on the North Fork Crooked River from the 3rd Saturday in May through October 31. The daily limit is two trout with an eight inch minimum, and fishing is restricted to flies and lures. Deep Creek does not take reservations and fills up quickly during hunting season and summer holidays. There are 14 sites, most of which are close to the river, and many can accommodate RVs and trailers. However, no hook-ups of any kind are available, so RVs should be self-contained. Each site has its own picnic table and parking, and vault toilets are available for the entire camp site, as well as drinking water stations during the operating season. The per night, per site fee is $8 for the first vehicle and $3 for each additional vehicle.
