Sheep Springs Horse Campground sits in the spectacular Metolius River Basin area in Deschutes National Forest. The campground offers 11 large equestrian sites, each equipped with a 4-place box stall. Picnic tables, campfire rings and grills and ample room for parking vehicles and trailers are also available at each site. Located at an elevation of approximately 3,200 feet, campsites are interspersed among a towering canopy of old-growth Ponderosa pine and a variety of spruce and fir. Seasonal, usually May-October, sites are $18 per night and the use of this campground is reserved for those with horses. The park-like area is flanked by mountains and Green Ridge in the Metolius River basin, laced with creeks and shaded by huge ponderosa pines. Sheep Springs Horse Camp provides access to the 150-mile Metolius-Windigo Trail, plus some easy, low-elevation trails that explore the basin and go up into the Mt. Jefferson Wilderness. Drinking water and a vault toilet are also provided
