Sustainability in Bend

Taking care of the places that take care of us.

A Sustainable Community

Visit Bend strives to make Bend as sustainable as possible, and it’s a goal we can’t achieve alone. We work together with local organizations, residents, visitors, agencies, and business partners to achieve our vision for a sustainable community—one that prioritizes economic, social, and environmental health while addressing the needs of all community members.

The Three Pillars of Sustainability

At Visit Bend, sustainability is based on three pillars: economic, environmental, and social sustainability. Our community depends on all three, and it’s vital to find a balance between them. To have a thriving, sustainable community for residents and visitors alike, we need to consider all three pillars.

We Invest in Bend

The Bend Sustainability Fund

Taking care of the places that take care of us is our top priority.

The Bend Sustainability Fund, a Visit Bend Project, reinvests tax revenue generated through short-term lodging tax paid by visitors into the places and spaces that create sustainable experiences in our community.

Since the inception of the Bend Sustainability Fund, $2,290,000 has been awarded to 17 projects.

Recyle your beer can carriers!

You know those hard plastic can carriers that hold together your four- and six-packs of beer and cider? It’s called PakTech and you can recycle it but not in the Deschutes County recycling program. Crux Fermentation Project and the Bend Visitor Center are the only places in Bend where you can drop those puppies off for recycling.
